Exclusive Interview with MEMSIC Global CTO ③ | The Arrival of AI Usher in a Golden Age for the Chip Industry

Release Time:2026.10.16

Fueled by the accelerated advancement of artificial intelligence, the semiconductor industry is embracing fresh growth opportunities. Within the sensor sector in particular, AI has not only spawned numerous emerging industries that did not exist before, but also driven the recovery and expansion of the traditional sensor market. In an exclusive interview with Jiwei Web, Stephen, Global CTO of MEMSIC, stated, “This is an excellent golden age for sensor companies.”

Stephen notes that unlike established mature markets, emerging tracks are yet to see settled competitive landscapes. Instead of merely playing catch-up with established industry giants, enterprises get to compete on an equal footing. For sensor players such as MEMSIC, this represents incremental opportunities brought by emerging markets, as well as a critical window to achieve leapfrog growth backed by proven mass-production expertise and rigorous high-quality control systems.

Jiwei Web: Against the backdrop of new-quality productive forces, fast-growing sectors including the low-altitude economy and AIoT have unlocked brand-new incremental markets for MEMS sensors. How do you view the new opportunities available to sensor enterprises in the AI era?

Stephen: As diverse emerging markets expand, AI is demonstrating tremendously disruptive power. It continuously gives rise to brand-new industries that never existed in the past, while strongly fueling the recovery and growth of the existing traditional sensor market.

That is why we genuinely believe we are living through an outstanding golden age for sensor businesses.

In traditional mature markets, relatively newer sensor vendors like MEMSIC have to engage in an extremely tough battle to catch up with long-established incumbents with deep roots.

On these emerging tracks, however, the competitive landscape has not solidified; no player holds a dominant leadership position. These are entirely new frontiers, presenting a remarkable chance for emerging enterprises.

Everyone starts from the same baseline. We are no longer passive “followers”; we step onto the stage side by side.

Therefore, I believe this is a prime opportunity for companies such as MEMSIC to achieve leapfrog development by switching tracks. We boast solid experience in high-volume delivery and a stringent chip quality control system built over many years.

Our product portfolio has now proven to be an ideal fit for many fast-booming emerging markets, such as the low-altitude economy and the constant stream of new AIoT devices.

We are fully capable of delivering highly competitive solutions.
