Dr. Yang Zhao is our founder and has served as our President and Chief Executive Officer since our inception. Dr. Zhao has over 18 years of experience in MEMS technology and related business development. Prior to founding our company in 1999, Dr. Zhao served in various management positions at Analog Devices, Inc. for seven years, where he was instrumental in developing ADI's MEMS product line and forming industry-wide strategic relationships.
Dr. Zhao is well-recognized in the field of MEMS technology. He has been named as an inventor on 22 patents in IC circuit, processing, packaging and MEMS technology. Dr. Zhao holds a B.S. degree in physics from Peking University, as well as a master's degree and a Ph.D. in electrical engineering from Princeton University where he studied under Professor Daniel Tsui, who won the 1998 Nobel Prize in physics. He is currently the vice chairman of the board at the School of Engineering of Peking University.
Patricia Niu joined MEMSIC in September 2003 and has served as Chief Financial Officer since June 2008. From 2003 to 2008, Ms. Niu held positions as Vice President of Finance and Corporate Controller. Ms. Niu has over 15 years of experience in corporate finance and four years of experience in commercial banking. Prior to joining MEMSIC, Ms. Niu served as the International Business Unit Controller at Key3Media Events, Inc. from 2001 to 2002 and Audit Supervisor and Senior Financial Analyst at Fesenius Medical Care, N.A. from 1995 to 2001. From 1989 through 1995, Ms. Niu worked as a commercial lender at Bank of China, Head Office in Beijing, China and The Savings Bank in Wakefield, Massachusetts.
Ms. Niu received an M.B.A. from Northeastern University in Boston in 1994 and a B.A. from Beijing Foreign Studies University in China in 1989.
Dr. Paul Zavracky has more than 30 years of business, scientific and academic experience, serving most recently as Dean of Northeastern University's School of Technological Entrepreneurship. Prior to that, he co-founded The MicroOptical Corporation and, while serving as president and COO, developed two-axis MEMS micro-mirrors and successfully launched the company's military, medical and consumer head-mounted display businesses. Earlier in his career, he was co-founder and COO of Kopin Corporation, where he spearheaded its development of silicon on insulator (SOI) materials.
Dr. Zavracky obtained his Ph.D. in Physics at Tufts University and his Bachelors and Master's degrees in Physics from Northeastern University. He has more than 100 publications and is named as an inventor in 67 issued patents.
Dr. Zavracky had also served on the MEMSIC Board of Directors since 1999 prior to his joining MEMSIC as its President of North American and European Operations in January 2011.
Wei Zhang joined MEMSIC in July, 2000 and has served as General Manager of MEMSIC Semiconductor (Wuxi), LTD., since Mar, 2009. During the period from 2000 to 2009, Mr. Zhang has held roles as quality manager, quality director and quality VP successively. He has more than 20 years experience in the semiconductor and MEMS industry. Prior to joining MEMSIC, he worked at Toshiba (Wuxi) Semiconductor, LTD., from 1994 to 2000 on quality management. From 1989 to1994, he worked as the testing engineer at Huajing Corporation, the biggest semiconductor company in China at that time.
Mr. Zhang received his B.S. in Electrical Engineering at Shanghai Jiao Tong University in 1989.
Steve Tsui joined MEMSIC in 2010 as Vice President of Worldwide Sales for MEMSIC's Systems Business. A technology industry veteran, Mr. Tsui brings over 25 years of sales, marketing and general management experience ranging from large established companies to new start-ups in the high-tech industry. Leading a team of business development and sales professionals, Tsui is focused on MEMSIC's strategic alliance relationships, business development strategies and sales channel expansion into global markets for inertial systems and wireless sensing solutions.
Tsui began his career with IBM in systems sales in the San Francisco Bay Area where he served in various sales and management positions. He went on to lead the sales organization for Acer America where his team grew annual revenue over 25 times to $1.4 billion in 5 years. Prior to joining MEMSIC, Tsui was the VP of sales and marketing at WaveSplitter, an optical component start-up where his team had numerous multi-million dollar sales wins with prominent global telecommunication and networking companies.
Steve was born in Taiwan and came to the United States for his undergraduate education holding a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Engineering from University of California, Berkeley, and an MBA from Stanford Business School.
